Ingredients

plain flour

egg

 

1 pint

milk

 

1 lb

beef steak

frying steak

1/4 tsp

salt

 

knob

dripping

vegetable oil or lard

Method

mix the flour and salt in a basin and make a well in the centre of the mix

break the egg in another basin and put into the well

3

stir in enough of the milk to make a smooth batter and beat well

4

add the rest of the milk and set aside to swell

5

cut the meat into individual portions

melt dripping in a baking tin or pie dish

 when the tin is hot and the dripping melted pour in the batter mixture

add the meat

bake for one hour  in a hot oven at first  and then lower the temperature

the meat can be cut into bite sized pieces if desired although these will shrink in size with cooking

adding too much salt will make the batter heavy
