|
peel the onions and place into a saucepan
|
|

add cold water, bring to the boil and then strain
|
|

return to saucepan with 1/2 teaspoon salt and sufficient water to cover the onions ,boil for one hour or until tender
|

drain onions and chop coarsely
|
|

|
melt the butter in a saucepan and stir in the flour and cook for 2 minutes
|

|
add the milk and stir until it boils
|
|
7
|
add the onions , season to taste and simmer for 5 minutes
|
|
8
|
stir in the cream
|
|
9
|
serve with lamb, tripe, pork or sausages
|
