1/2 lb

plain flour

 

1/2 tsp

baking powder

 

1/4 pint

cold water

 

Method

mix flour and baking powder in a basin with the water

divide the mix into four portions shaped into round balls

heat water in a saucepan

once the water is boiling drop the dumplings into the boiling water

boil for 20 minutes and serve at once

dumplings are sweet or savory depending on the accompaniment. They are equally good with brown gravy as a savory or jam, treacle or butter and sugar as a dessert

When dropping into the boiling water care must be taken to ensure that they do not stick to the sides or bottom of the saucepan.
